Phil Mazzone Memorial Career Enhancement Program Scholarships
About Phil Mazzone
Phil Mazzone was instrumental in the formation of the PHPA Career Enhancement Program in 1997 and served as its first program Coordinator until his retirement in 2004. Since its inception, the program has assisted over 2,500 PHPA Members, offering a range of services including education upgrades, employment placements, and preparation for their post hockey careers. Prior to his tenure at the PHPA, Mazzone was a long-time educator who was experienced in helping high school students transition to post-secondary education or the workforce. He helped hundreds of student-athletes achieve their goal of attaining a college scholarship.
About The Scholarship
Each year, scholarships are awarded to two players from the American Hockey League and two players from the ECHL who demonstrate a strong commitment to continuing their education while making a meaningful impact within their teams and communities. Recipients exemplify mentorship, leadership, and encouragement toward others — values that reflect the spirit of Phil Mazzone.
As part of the application process, candidates shared their career goals, intended courses or programs of study, and how they embody Phil Mazzone’s legacy and values.
Scholarship recipients are selected by members of the Mazzone family in collaboration with CEP Coordinator, Steve Carney.
